Why Natural Thatch?
Natural thatch is a sustainable material, made from plants that regrow. Many designers prefer the natural look of natural reeds, which have color variations and visual interest. Some feel this provides the most “authentic” look for clubs, hotels, and other businesses.
This natural building material handles dampness well and is treated for fire rating. It works well on palapas, roofs, umbrellas, overhangs, and other environments. The materials fade naturally with exposure to the sun, which creates a natural bleached look over time.
African Reed Thatch
Tubular African reeds native to South Africa are dipped and hand glued to a rigid but flexible, heavy-duty urethane binder. Our African reed thatch panels create a visual impact through the variations of color found throughout the reeds. The thickness of the panels provides a distinct, stepped appearance when installed on a roof, umbrella or palapa and, also allows the material to fare well in damp, moist climates. Easy to install, African reed panels are installed as simply as a typical roof shingle.
