Ceiling Panels & Treatments

Description

Bamboo ceiling treatments may be the most overlooked yet impactful design choices you can make. After all, the ceiling is typically an unobstructed space visible from every corner of the room. Maybe it’s time to look up!

BYXS Commercial has been an industry leader for over 20 years, supplying materials and providing highly experienced support to assist you with your project.

Why should you consider drawing attention to the ceiling?  It’s simple: add color, warmth, and texture, direct the viewer’s sight line, and make spaces feel wider or deeper, or create a sense of cozy compression to name a few. A rustic bamboo stick ceiling often makes rooms feel less cluttered as the ceiling casts the tone or vibe over the entire room reducing the need for additional décor to convey the tone.  Rooms with bamboo panels and stark white walls emanate a sense of style and sophistication, even when barren of furnishings and décor.

Let’s begin!  Ceiling design is as easy as answering a few quick questions…

Materials:

Synthetic:  We proudly offer Viro products made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) that is rot, mold, mildew, and insect resistant, perfect for both interior and exterior applications. All Viro brand products carry a warranty and recycle up to 20X! Our synthetic materials are broken down into two main categories: ceiling thatch panels and rolled matting.

Ceiling thatch panels create the appearance of being inside a palapa or tiki hut with the warm rustic hues of thatch, creating an atmosphere that makes you feel like you can smell the warm ocean salt air, no matter how far the beach sand is from your toes.

Rolled Matting is available in rolls up to 4’X25’ and available in a variety of colors, textures, and patterns.  Every style is offered in standard colors but can be custom-made to match nearly any Pantone color imaginable. These HDPE mats can be easily cut with a utility knife or construction scissors. Inquire to learn more about Inherently Fire Retardant (IFR) options. Samples are available upon request.

Natural: We responsibly source all of our natural products from growers that sustainably harvest to reduce global deforestation. The earthy hues and organic movement bring a warm calming feel to any space, inside or out. Natural materials are also broken down into two categories: Mats/boards and poles.

Ceiling mats/boards are a popular choice for bamboo ceiling panels as they cover large areas and are easy to install.  Mats/boards are available in a variety of colors and styles: woven semi-rigid boards, woven flexible mats, and rolled tambor bamboo paneling. Ceiling mats and boards are installed with conventional contact cement and/or pin nails or narrow crown staples.

Poles are available in bamboo and eucalyptus in several diameters and lengths, full round or split (1/2 round), and can be treated to meet a Class A fire rating. BYXS Commercial has designed and assisted with countless bamboo and eucalyptus ceilings in commercial spaces and residences over the years and continues to partner with clients to realize their visions and dreams.

BYXS Commercial stocks five species of bamboo to meet all your needs. Although bamboo typically evokes the image of beachside bungalows, bamboo installed in geometric patterns, and diagonal or even clean lines can emanate of sense of style and sophistication.

Tam Vong (aka solid bamboo or iron bamboo) is the most popular product for ceiling treatments as it is naturally straight with a 1”-2” diameter and lengths from 8’-12’.  For an even more sleek look, BYXS Commerical offers Tam Vong with pre-milled sides to minimize the gaps created by the protruding nodes.

Tonkin bamboo is a very thin wall product suitable for interior installations.  Its thin wall makes it lightweight and ideal for overhead applications.  With available diameters ranging from 3/8″-5″ and lengths up to 16’.

Guadua bamboo has a thicker wall and is available in diameters of 3”-6” and lengths of 18’ or more.  Although the larger diameter is not typically conducive to a ceiling treatment itself, it is often used to trim and border ceilings creating an anchor point for the eye.

Tre Gai bamboo has a thicker wall than Guadua and is traditionally used for structural supports in buildings around the globe.  But don’t let its strength scare you.  Our sanded and finished Tre Gai infuses a warm refined finish to any room.  Guadua is not typically used for entire ceiling treatments but is ideal for trim and borders.

Moso Slats in our opinion are the hidden gem of ceilings.  These thin-milled slats have a consistent width and color allowing clients to create very uniform patterns and looks.  Due to their milled natural, each slat is 1 ¾” wide and ranges from ¼”- ½” thick. They are very lightweight allowing for easy installation that will last for years to come.

Eucalyptus poles are the ‘do all’ material because of their versatility and variety of applications.  These eucalyptus ceiling panels have been used for decades for projects ranging from large exterior structural trellis systems to refined interior ceiling details and treatments.  Due to their solid internal structure, Eucalyptus poles are easy to secure and take pin nails, staples, and even screws with ease.  The barkless poles can be stained or painted to match nearly any décor style and withstand a wide range of environments.  Available in diameters as small as 1” and as large as 16” or more, eucalyptus poles can not only create stunning ceiling treatments but serve as both structural or faux support beams, dividers, and trim.  When cleaned with high-pressure water, eucalyptus takes on a completely different look, emanating a warm silvery hue and becoming the focal point of any room.
